19 August 2008 Meeting – The Commons, Ft. McPherson

Our guest speaker, Dr. Larry Smith, author Darwin’s War, wowed us with highlights from his book – a historical-fiction novel about the 9^th Air Force’s role in the WWII European Theater.  While narrowing his presentation a bit, we had a glimpse into his research of science, religion, and politics, as well as strategy and tactics used by the 416^th Bomb Group.

The evening’s highlight was meeting 2Lt Heather Thrasher and Senior Cadet Rich Schanda – our Flight’s first scholarship recipients.  What a pleasure and proud moment it was for our Flight to meet these two outstanding young Americans, anxiously awaiting their chance to pursue military aviation.

Another high spot this evening was inducting two new members into the Daedalians.  Welcome to Daniel Barnes and Pat Egan.  Both helping to lower our Flight’s average ‘age’!
